Have you even been in a noisy workplace, factory or concert and had to cover your ears? Ever wonder how noisy something or someone is? There are several tools that can help you check the noise/sound level. Here is a list of the most common ones:
1- Sound Level Meters ← Click link for examples
A sound level meter (SLM) is the basic tool for measuring the intensity of noise, music, and other sounds. These instruments will typically provide a single read-out of overall sound pressure levels. Typically, these instruments are suitable to determine if overall sound levels over the audible frequency range exceed a certain value. Devices like this give a measurement of sound intensity in units called decibels. These meters are primarily manufactured as handheld, portable devices and are designed to measure sound levels in a standardized way.
2- Sound Data Loggers ← Click link for examples
Sound Data Loggers are mostly sound level meters that have the abilities to record and store data over time. This measurement data is either stored on the sound level meter’s built-in memory or to a connected storage device. The advantage of the data logging capabilities of these sound level meters is to be able to set-up the instrument to measure and capture all the parameters you need at user-defined intervals and leave the instruments unattended
