Essential Tools for HVAC Technicians

Starting work on HVAC field will require you some basic tools. There are some specialized equipment, however some general tools will be essential to find solutions with cooling or heating.

 

  1. Markers
  2. Safety glasses
  3. Gloves
  4. Tape Measure: At least 25 foot
  5. Utility knife with extra blades
  6. Inspection mirror
  7. Flashlight/headlamp: Basic item but super important to work with HVAC.
  8. Hammer: Since you will need to put it on your belt, choose a light weight one.
  9. Screwdrivers: To protect yourself while you are working, make sure they are insulated.
  10. Hex-Head Nut Drivers
  11. Level
  12. Pliers
  13. Wrenches: A set with small, medium and large
  14. Tin Snips and Shears
  15. Pipe Wrenches
  16. Battery-Powered Drill (18 Volts at least): It is important to have 2 Batteries to make sure it will last the whole day without a charge, and a set of bits

 

Specialty Tools

  1. Electrical Testers (Multimeter and Voltage Tester): Once HVAC Systems are connected to electrical systems, it will be necessary to verify the presence of wires, measure voltage, resistance or other electrical tests out in the field.
  2. Handheld thermometer
  3. Reciprocating Saw
  4. Refrigerant Manifolds
  5. Vacuum pump
  6. Caulking Gun
